Practicing one’s religion independently is the tradition of Bangladesh: Mayor Arif

Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that Autumn Durgatsav is one of the biggest festivals of contemporary Bengali work. It is through our age-old tradition of sharing each other’s joys and sorrows and harmony that prosperity is accelerated. We all have to play our part in maintaining communal harmony.

He also said that it is the tradition of Bangladesh that every citizen of the country can practice his religion independently.

He said the above words in the auspicious opening speech of the Subodh Manch Autumnal Durga Utsav ceremony at Chardnighat in the city on the initiative of Bangladesh Puja Udjajar Parishad Sylhet District and Metropolitan Branch on Wednesday (October 5) afternoon.

Under the chairmanship of Sylhet Mahanagar Pooja Celebration Council President Subrata Dev and general secretary of the district branch Advocate Ranjan Ghosh and general secretary of the metropolitan branch Rajat Kanti Guptar jointly moderated the welcome speech – District President Muktijoddha Gopika Shyam Purkayastha.

Speakers in the meeting expressed their gratitude to the political leaders and the government administration for creating an environment for the peaceful observance of Sharadiya Durga Puja due to political goodwill. The speakers said that Bangladesh of liberation war was created so that every religious festival can be celebrated with due solemnity without any fear.

The speakers also said that political parties including the administration should play a responsible role so that no circle can spread hatred. Along with this, every incident of the past should be tried, including the exemplary trial of those who created violence during last year’s autumn Durga Puja. A total of 621 idols of Sylhet district and metropolis were enshrined at Chandnighat. Press release
