People disoriented by unbridled increase in prices of essential commodities: Basad

A human chain and protest rally was held in front of the party office in Amberkhana on Wednesday at 5:30 pm on the initiative of the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Basad Sylhet district branch to demand reduction in the price of daily necessities, stop attacks, lawsuits, killings, torture, grant of license for battery operated vehicles and stop harassment.

Under the chairmanship of Basad Sylhet District Branch Coordinator Abu Zafar and moderated by District Member Pranab Jyoti Pal, Zubair Ahmad Chowdhury Sumon, Belal Ahmad, Shukkur Ali, Manzoor Ahmad, Khokon Ahmad, Zaheed Ahmad, Harun Mia, Kuti were present and spoke in the rally. Mia, Azad Mia, Mintu Dash, Zahurul Islam etc.

Speakers in the rally said that the people are disoriented today due to the unbridled increase in the prices of daily necessities. Due to the increase in the prices of daily essentials, public suffering has crossed all the limits of the past. The government is protecting the interests of profiteering syndicates without taking effective measures to curb price hikes.

The speakers said that assembly, procession, strike, freedom of expression are the constitutional rights of every citizen. But the current government has taken away the voting rights and democratic rights of the people and has established corruption and looting and fascist misrule. No dictator in the past could stay in power by repression, torture, assaults, and the current government will not be able to either. He strongly demanded an end to the police intervention in the democratic movement and the attack and torture of party terrorists with education from the past. At the same time, he urged all the left progressive forces to form a united mass movement and resistance against the government’s attacks, lawsuits, suppression and torture.

The speakers called for licensing of battery-powered vehicles, stopping harassment and fixing the wrecker bill at 500 rupees as before. Press release-
