14 dead, 10 missing in Nepal landslide

At least 14 people have been killed and seven injured in landslides triggered by heavy rains in western Nepal, officials said. They said on Saturday that the rescue workers are searching the disaster site in search of 10 more missing people. News from Cyprus Mail.

About 400 kilometers west of the capital Kathmandu, 5 houses were buried in this landslide in Akham district; Police spokesman Dhan Bahadur Karki said rescue workers removed the muddy debris and rescued the injured and dead.

Reuters news agency reported that footage from local media showed rescue workers manually shoveling mud and carrying out desperate efforts to find the missing. The 10 missing people are believed to be trapped under the debris.

Officials said that the rescued injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. During the rainy season, which lasts from June to September, landslides and landslides are common in the mountainous regions of Nepal.

According to the government, at least 48 people have died and 12 people are missing in flash floods and landslides in the country so far this year.
