Chhatra League attacked BNP procession, injured 50
Chhatra League attacked the BNP procession in Munshiganj’s Srinagar as alleged by the local BNP leaders and activists. They said that the incident took place on the Srinagar-Dohar bypass road of the upazila around 10 am on Friday.
As part of the central program, the upazila BNP leaders and activists gathered in the bypass area and took out a procession. At the same time, Chhatra League leaders and workers were also marching side by side while crossing the road and there was a chase between the two sides.
According to BNP office, upazila BNP member secretary Hafizul Islam Khan, women’s party leader Selina Rina, youth party president Zainal Abedin James, youth party leader Masud Rana, BNP leader Mamun and several leaders and activists of Chhatra League have been beaten up. Later the police came and brought the situation under control.
The party claimed that the Chhatra League attacked their procession without provocation and beat up at least 50 activists.
However, it has been said by the Chhatra League that the BNP people were the first to come towards their procession and create a ruckus.
The BNP leaders complained that around 11:00 PM, the activists of the Swachhasebak League took position under the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway flyover and turned back the BNP leaders and activists. They were prevented from entering Srinagar.
Officer-in-charge of Srinagar police station Md. Aminul Islam said that the police have controlled the situation. The area is quiet now.
