Asaduzzaman Khairul, Savar (Dhaka): In the municipal elections held in Dhamrai municipality under Dhaka district, there have been massive clashes and vandalism between the activist and supporters of the winning and losing councilors. At least six people were injured in the clashes on both sides. The incident took place at 11:30 pm on Tuesday (December 29) in the Boubazar area of Dhamrai.
Dhamrai Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident at noon on Wednesday (December 30).
One of the injured was identified but the others were not identified. Seriously injured Sohail, son of Mahaddis Hossain of Chaibaria area of Dhamrai. The bone in his hand is broken. The injured Sohail is currently admitted to Enam Medical in Savar. The rest were released from DhamraiUpazila Health Complex with first aid.
Abu Saeed, the winning councilor of the ward, said, “Since the beginning of the election, the people of Arfan have intimidated and threatened my people in various ways. When my staff went to meet the workers in the Boubazar area, the people of Arfan took them to the house of the Sobhan member and beat them.
He later detained three of them. After receiving the news, I rescued my staff with the help of Dhamrai police and treated them at DhamraiUpazila Health Complex. One of them broke his bone and was referred to Enam Medical College in Savar. His treatment is ongoing.
Meanwhile, local Azgar Ali complained that the people of Abu Said came and vandalized several shops and houses in Boubazar area thinking that the people here had elected Arfan. He alleged that they carried out the attack at the instigation of some locals. He claimed that no children or women were spared in the attack.
Dhamrai Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Kamal Hossain said that there was a fight in the area, the matter is true. If a complaint is lodged, a case will be filed in this regard.
