Mir Jamal: Police have arrested Syed Mahmudul Haque Sohel, manager of AB Bank’s Habiganj main branch, for embezzling Tk 85 lakh from a one-time FDR deposit of a customer in Habiganj.
Madhabpur police arrested him with the help of local police from Motijheel in Dhaka around 8pm on Wednesday.
Madhabpur police officer in charge (OC) confirmed the matter Iqbal Hossain.
The arrested Mahmudul Haque is a resident of Mashajan area of Habiganj Sadar upazila.
OC Iqbal Hossain said, in 2013 Madhabpur municipal area businessman. Adil Hossain made an FDR of Tk 85 lakh at AB Bank Madhabpur branch. At that time Syed Mahmudul Haque was the manager of Madhabpur branch of AB Bank. He embezzled Tk 85 lakh from the FDR of the trader without depositing it in the bank.
Meanwhile, Syed Mahmudul Haque was transferred from Madhabpur branch of AB Bank to Habiganj main branch. When the businessman went to break the FDR recently, he saw that he had no money in the bank.
Liaquat Ali, the current manager of AB Bank’s Madhabpur branch, filed a case against Syed Mahmudul Haque at Madhabpur police station on December 1. After filing the case, Madhabpur police launched an operation to arrest him.
Madhabpur police arrested him from Motijheel in Dhaka on Wednesday evening with the help of local police.
