Srimangal (Moulvibazar) Representative : Candidates and general workers participating in the election have held a press conference demanding cancellation of the election and cancellation of the election of Srimangal branch of Moulvibazar 1223 Paribahan Sramik Union.
The defeated candidates held a press conference at Srimangal Press Club on Saturday (November 21) at 8 pm. Abu Kamal Khairuzzaman Kamal read a written statement on behalf of the transport workers of the Srimangal Branch Workers Union of 1223.
In a written statement, Kamal said that the election of Srimangal branch of Srimangal Workers Union was held on November 18, 2020. Voting took place in the election camp at Srimangal Zilla Parishad Auditorium from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The voters of Srimangal 1223 cast their votes peacefully.
Moulvibazar District 1223 Workers Union President Fazlu Ahmed was in charge of the election, Saleh Ahmed, General Secretary of District 1223 Workers Union was in charge of the election secretary and Mamunur Rashid Mamun was the Presiding Officer.
Complaining at the press conference, Kamal said that since the announcement of the election schedule of the Kulaura branch in 1223, the Election Commission has revised the voter list as per their wish and included the same voter in the voter list more than once.
He alleged that the commission conducted the election with private presiding officers at its discretion, did not allow candidates to visit polling stations, and announced the results of the mockery without the signatures of the candidates’ agents.
Speaking at the press conference, Khairuzzaman Kamal said that when the results were announced by the Election Commissioner at 2.30 pm, the defeated parties rejected the results and applied to the Election Commissioner for recount of votes.
Then the Election Commissioner expressed reluctance to recount the votes. At one stage, the general workers blocked the election commissioner at around 3:30 pm. Later, the Srimangal police calmed down the protesting workers and brought the angry workers and candidates to the police station along with the Election Commissioner and the vault box.
The ballot boxes were later sealed and confiscated based on the views of the candidates. In this activity of the Election Commission, the ordinary workers and party members demanded the cancellation of the November 18 election and re-election through an impartial commission.
All the defeated candidates and other workers who participated in the November 18 elections were present at the press conference.
