Bureau Chief: Chief Guest Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rajibul Islam Khan said, this century-old movement has made the spirit of cooperatives strong and meaningful among people of all walks of life in Bangladesh. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s cherished dream was to build a golden Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty and exploitation. He dreamed of a people-oriented cooperative movement for the betterment of the poor and disadvantaged.
The constitution recognizes cooperatives as the second sector of the national economy as a principle of ownership. Therefore, it is possible to establish a just society through cooperatives if everyone is responsible for building a cooperative-based society with honesty, devotion and sincerity. He further said that the key to the developed countries of the world is to build a cooperative based society.
Realizing this fact, Bangabandhu emphasized on conducting every development activity on the basis of cooperatives immediately after the independence of the country. In its continuation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been making an outstanding contribution to reducing the poverty rate in rural areas through special initiatives. The disparity between urban and rural areas is decreasing day by day.
In the last ten years, Bangladesh has become a role model for development. In this way, if we can build every village on the basis of cooperatives, the fate of the marginalized people will soon change radically. Appropriate projects need to be formulated and implemented to increase the income and purchasing power of rural people through self-employment generation, increase in agricultural production, processing and marketing of agricultural products.
It is possible to establish a just society by reducing income inequality through cooperatives by making people aware about cooperatives and bringing dynamism in the cooperative movement. On the occasion of the 49th National Cooperative Day organized by Upazila Administration, Upazila Cooperative Division and Cooperatives on Saturday (November-7) under the theme ‘Bangabandhu’s Philosophy, Cooperative Development’, the chief guest spoke under the chairmanship of Upazila Cooperative Officer Md. Speaking as the special guest, Upazila Parishad Women Vice Chairman Marina Akhter Mina said the members of the cooperative society have been making a huge contribution to the national economy besides improving their standard of living.
