Prison killings are a stigmatized chapter in history

Md Sayeduzzaman Sayed: Prison killing is a stigmatized chapter of history for the Bengali nation. On 15 November 1975, two and a half months after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s family, on 3 November, assassins brutally killed four national leaders while they were in prison.

These were the words of the speakers at a prayer mahfil and discussion meeting organized by the Upazila Awami League, its affiliates and allied organizations at the office room of Naikhyangchhari Upazila Awami League.

Taslim Iqbal Chowdhury, vice-president of Upazila Awami League and former chairman of Sadar Union, told the meeting that the conspirators have not stopped after killing four national leaders. The assassins are conspiring in various ways to hinder the development of the country.

Rezaul Karim, general secretary of Naikhyangchhari Upazila Chhatra League, Abdur Rahman, former president of Upazila Awami League presided over the meeting. District council member Kanuwan Chak, general secretary of Upazila Awami League Md Imran, joint secretary Dr Sirajul Haque, youth and sports secretary Fakhrul addressed the meeting.

Islam Kalu, Religious Affairs Secretary Maulana Nurul Islam, Awami League Leader Mohammad Hossain, Upazila Mahila Awami League Sabha Leader Juhura Begum, Krishka League General Secretary Saifuddin Mamun Shimul, Labor League General Secretary Paisu Marma, Sadar Union Juba League Organizing Secretary Anshar Ullah, Organizing Secretary Abdu Rahman Bappi, former president of College Chhatra League Raihan, former general secretary Muminul Alam Mumu, student leader Abu Saleh Noman, Abrar and other leaders and activists of allied and affiliated organizations were present.
