Nazrul Islam, Joypurhat: Fish farmers have benefited by cultivating fish in cages in the Chhoto Jamuna river in Panchbibiupazila of the district at low cost and in an easy manner.
Saiful Islam and Alam, local fishermen, recently started fish farming in cages on the Chhoto Jamuna river flows through the western side of Panchbibipourashabha.
Now they are hoping to get benefit. Fisherman Anwarul Islam, a resident of Chhoto Jamuna riverside said that deep water in the middle of the flowing river has very clear water round the year. Even there is no possibility of disease or pest. He also said ‘We have succeeded in fish farming in an experimental way and since then we have taken initiative to fish farming commercially.’
The fishermen said that fish farming in cages in the river water does not require much food and does not cause any disease. The fish grows fast and can be marketed within very short time. With the help of the government, it will be possible to expand it.
Deputy Director of divisional fisheries department Tofaz Uddin Ahmed inspected the project and assured the farmers that he would make all necessary arrangements for it.
