Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet : ASI Ashek E-Elahi has been arrested in connection with the murder of Raihan in Sylhet. He was arrested from Sylhet Police Lines on Wednesday night. Later on Thursday (October 29) at noon, the PBI brought him to the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman under tight security. The investigating officer of the case Mahidul Islam Ashek-e-Elahi applied for a 7-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted him a 5-day remand.
On the other hand, Harunur Rashid was also taken to court on Thursday afternoon after a five-day remand. As he did not agree to testify in court, he was remanded for another 5 days in the second phase. The court granted him another 3 days remand. Mohidul Islam, the investigating officer of the case, confirmed the truth.
Meanwhile, on the night of the Ashek e-Elahi incident (October 10), Raihan was picked up from the Kastagar area of the city and brought to the police outpost. There, Raihan was tortured to death by the police. The PBI investigation team was able to arrest another miscreant along with three policemen.
Incidentally, on Sunday (October 11) morning, Raihan was picked up from the city’s Kastghar area and tortured to death at the Bandarbazar police outpost. Later, the victim’s wife filed a murder case with the Kotwali police station on Monday (October 12). Whose case number is 20 (10) 2020. After that, an investigation team of the metropolitan police investigated the overall matter and outpost in-charge (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, Touhid and four others were dismissed and three others were withdrawn. However, the main culprit Akbar is still at large.
