Schoolgirl jumps from CNG, road blo- Ckade in Jaintapur case, no arrest!

Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet  :A schoolgirl jumped from a CNG-powered autorickshaw to escape abduction in Jaintapur, Sylhet. Later, when the news spread in the local area, the people staged a procession including blockade of Sylhet-Tamabil highway. All traffic was light at this time of night for about two hours. Locals later lifted the blockade after the administration intervened and promised to arrest the abductors within 24 hours.

It is learned that the schoolgirl (12), daughter of Imam Uddin of Dalaipara (Shampur) village of Fatehpur Union No. 5 of Jaintapur Upazila, left home for Haripur Multipurpose High School around 10:30 am on Monday (October 26) to take private classes. The student came to Temukhi point in front of the house of former UP member Mahmud Ali Member of the same area and waited for the car. Within minutes, a CNG autorickshaw came to a stop in front of him and he got into the car. But the mysterious but true fact is that when the CNG-powered autorickshaw reached the Haripur (Fatehpur) bypass road, it did not go to the school but headed towards Sylhet. At that time, when the student understood and wanted to shout, 2/3 of the abductors tried to hold her hostage by holding her at gunpoint. At one stage, the car reached in front of Shikarkhan Government Primary School on Sylhet-Tamabil Road and the student jumped from the CNG-powered autorickshaw in self-defense. He was later rescued in an injured condition and taken home after treatment locally. However, locals could not identify one of the abductors but two others. The abductor was identified as Sahel Ahmed, 24, son of Wahab Ali of West Balipara village.

Meanwhile, to cover up the incident and blow it up in a different direction, several leaders and activists of the ruling party met in a secret meeting at the house of Muhibur Rahman Mem, joint general secretary of Upazila Awami League in Haripur village at around 7 pm. During this time, they threatened the girl’s father in various ways and tried to bribe her in exchange for a large sum of money. Jaintapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohsin Ali, Jaintapur Upazila Awami League senior co-president Alauddin, former BCL leader Zakaria Mahmud, Haripur Bazar Business Committee president Helal alias Razakar Helal, contractor Ali Ahmed and others were present at the meeting.

On the other hand, when the news of the secret meeting spread in the local area, the local people including the former students of Haripur Multipurpose High School got involved at around 8 pm and immediately blocked the Sylhet-Tamabil road and burnt the tires. Traffic was light at this time of night for about two hours. Later, the Jaintapur Model Police Station reached the spot and assured to bring the abductors under the law within 24 hours. The locals lifted the blockade.

On the other hand, a source confirmed that the abducting family has been kept in the house in fear. So that they do not open their mouths to the media or the public. However, a member of the family, who did not want to be named, told reporters that efforts were being made to resolve the issue at Mem’s home. At that time, he said that the OC of Jaintapur Model Police Station is involved in this incident in an integral way?

Talking to Awami League leader Mujibur Rahman Mem on his mobile phone, he denied the whole matter and said that OC Mohsin Ali had gone to his house for another job. In response to another question, he said that there was no incident of kidnapping, it was a drama being made. Helal, president of the Haripur Bazar Business Committee, said everyone has a mother and sister. Demanding a fair trial, he said no meeting was held at Mem Bhai’s house. I heard that a meeting was held in Haripur Bazar. However, he told the reporter that he did not know the venue of the meeting. Jaintapur Upazila Awami League vice-president Alauddin said the girl was abducted with the intention of raping her. He strongly condemned the incident and avoided the meeting. When he tried to talk to former BCL leader Zakaria Mahmud on his mobile phone, no statement was received as his mobile phone was not received.

Talking to Jaintapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohsin Ali on his mobile phone, he admitted the truth of the incident and said that he went to the spot and brought the situation under control. In response to another question, he said the Awami League leader did not go to Mem’s house. He can find out about the incident during the road blockade. He said no one had lodged a written complaint with the police about the abduction. He said he would take legal action if any complaint was received.

A case has been filed with Jaintapur Model Police Station in connection with the abduction last Monday night. OC Mohsin Ali said on Tuesday morning that the case was filed against the schoolgirl’s father as the plaintiff, naming Sahel as the main accused and naming two or three other unidentified persons.

It is to be noted that even before this, a madrasa student was tortured in Hemu area. His body was washed with hot water. Although the matter has gone viral in various TV channels and newspapers, it has remained hidden even today due to mysterious reasons. Has this created a buzz about the OC’s activities across the upazila?
