Thakurgaon Correspondent: Early hybrid varieties of paddy have been harvested in Pirganj of Thakurgaon. UNO Rezaul Karim inaugurated the paddy harvest at Malancha village of the upazila on Thursday morning. Farmer Rabindra Nath started harvesting paddy in advance by cutting Brri-90 planted in one bigha of land.
Upazila Agriculture Officer SM Golam Sarwar, Agriculture Extension Officer Tania Tabassum, Project Implementation Officer Tariful Islam, Farmers Rabindra Nath, Pulen Chandra, Samaru Chandra, Keshari Roy, Mojibur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Pankaj Kumar Roy were present on the occasion. Farmer Rabindra Nath said Bridhan-90 was planted on one bigha of land on July 7. After 113 days the paddy was harvested.
Land preparation, fertilizers, pesticides and intercropping cost Tk 9,000. He said, 30 manas of paddy has been grown in this one bigha of land. In the current market, I will get one thousand two hundred taka and 36 thousand taka as mind. I also hope to get 7 thousand taka by selling straw. Upazila Agriculture Officer SM Golam Sarwar said that at one time farmers in the area were in dire need of Ashwin and Kartik, which is known as manga. Now there is no manga in this region for early crop production. UNO Rezaul Karim said the current government’s agrarian revolution has made it easier to tackle manga in the region.
