Another policeman has been remanded for 5 days in connection with Raihan’s murder

Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet : The PBI has arrested another policeman in the much-discussed Raihan murder case. He was arrested Friday night (October 23) from police lines. He was temporarily fired for torturing Raihan. He is Constable Harun Rashid. PBI Sylhet Superintendent of Police (SP) Khalequzzaman confirmed the arrest.

Meanwhile, amid tight security, the PBI took him to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate 3rd Court Judge Sharmin Akter Neela around 3:30 pm on Saturday (October 24). At that time, when the PBI investigating officer applied for a 7-day remand, the court judge granted Harun a 5-day remand after a hearing.

Earlier (October 20), PBI arrested Constable Titu Chandra Das. Titu is currently on 5-day remand.
Incidentally, on Sunday (October 11) morning, Raihan was picked up from the Kastghar area of the city and tortured to death at the Bandarbazar police outpost. Later, the victim’s wife filed a murder case with the Kotwali police station on Monday (October 12). Whose case number is 20 (10) 2020.

After that, an investigation team of the metropolitan police investigated the overall matter and outpost in-charge (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, Touhid and four others were dismissed and three others were withdrawn. However, Akbar, the mastermind of the incident, is still at large.

The case was also transferred to the PBI on Tuesday (October 13) at the behest of the police headquarters. In the first instance, the PBI investigation team visited the Bandarbazar police outpost and went to Raihan’s house to gather information about the incident. Raihan’s body was later exhumed from the grave and an autopsy was conducted at Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue. The report found 113 marks of injuries on Raihan’s body.
