Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet : Raihan’s body has been exhumed following much-discussed police torture. The exhumation of Raihan’s body started around 9 am on Thursday. After a long two hours, the body of the deceased was exhumed from the graveyard of Akhalia Nawabi Mosque. Executive Magistrates of the district administration Sajib Ahmed and Mezbah Uddin Ahmed were present along with PBI members and several domes of the Medical College Hospital. Besides, locals including local councilor Mokhlishur Rahman Kamran were present during the exhumation. Inspector Mohidul Islam, PBI investigating officer, collected the inquest report after the body was exhumed. Later, the body of the deceased was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector SI Abdul Baten, the investigating officer of the Kotwali police station, had applied to the court for autopsy after retrieving the body from the grave. Following his application, the court allowed the removal of the body of the deceased. The PBI completed the formalities of exhumation on Thursday. The PBI is currently investigating the case on the instructions of the police headquarters.The SMP handed over the case file to PBI on Tuesday night (October 13).
This has been confirmed by the Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Sylhet District Superintendent of Police Khalequzzaman. At the time, he said, the investigation team was working to arrest unknown individuals in the murder case. He also said that legal action would be taken against those involved in the incident. “We received the docket (evidence and information documents) of the Sylhet incident last night,” he told a news conference. The PBI team from Sylhet was at the scene for three to four hours. We have begun our investigation. At the initial stage of the investigation, we felt that we needed SI Akbar, who was suspended.
The BPI official said, “Our IGP Sir always said, ‘Do not ruin the reputation you have earned in Corona.’ Since Akbar has tarnished the image of the army by this misdeed and he did not care about us, there is no chance to think about him.
Asked if the incident was due to Rs 10,000, he said, “We are investigating the matter.” Not everything can be said in one day. But we will pick up his body from the grave again under the leadership of a magistrate and investigate.
On Thursday (October 15), the body was taken to the morgue by a PBI investigation team.
It may be mentioned that last Saturday night, some policemen took Raihan to the Bandarbazar police outpost and demanded a bribe of Tk 10,000. On the phone, Raihan asked the family members to bring money. On Sunday morning, his family members went to the police station with Tk 5,000 and found out that he had been admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital due to illness. Go there and find out that Raihan is dead. Police initially said Raihan was beaten to death during a robbery attempt in the city’s Kastghar area. Tahmina Akter Tani, wife of the slain Raihan, filed a case with the Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night.
