Mahmudul Hasan, Pirganj (Rangpur) Correspondent: A preparatory meeting of Pirganj Upazila Puja Celebration Parishad has been held in Rangpur on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja. The preparatory meeting was held at Pirganj Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Thursday morning. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy presided over the preparatory meeting.
According to the committee, Durga Puja will be held in 91 puja mandals in Pirganj this year. Due to the Corona situation, the government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council decided to organize this year’s Durgotsab in an unpretentious manner in accordance with the 27-point guidelines. Special emphasis is laid on sound system and limited lighting in puja mandapas, restricting public gatherings and celebrating puja in a drug free environment.
Besides, everyone agreed not to hold all kinds of competitive events and cultural events. It also sought the cooperation of the police administration, Ansar-VDP members and local public representatives to maintain law and order.
Upazila Parishad Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, Upazila A’League President Azizur Rahman Ranga, Upazila A’League Secretary and Municipal Mayor Tajimul Islam Shamim, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Shafiur Rahman Mondal, Pirganj Police Officer-in-Charge Saresh Chandra, Bajrakatha Patrika Editor and Publisher Poet Sultan Ahmed Sona, Chairman of Baradargah Union Parishad Bir Muktijoddha Nurul Haque, Anshar VDP Upazila Officer Shahin Rahman and others. In 91 puja mandals in Pirganj upazila this year, the government provided 500 kg of rice in each puja mandap, Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the Upazila Parishad and Tk 50,000 on behalf of Nur Mohammad Mandal, Chairman of the Upazila Parishad.
Note that as per the government decision, Durga Puja will be celebrated this year with the help of volunteers without Ansar-VDP and members of the police force.
