Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet: There are no parents in Sylhet for 13 crore rupees. A ruling party leader has received Aladdin’s lamp. In a short time, he has become the owner of crores, crores of rupees from zero. He is Nizam Uddin, 30, son of Nur Uddin, a farmer of Satkuri village in Gowainghat Upazila Awami League’s agriculture affairs secretary and Daubavi union of the upazila. He has already participated in the stone auction worth Tk 13 crore in the administration of Sylhet Divisional Environment Department. However, he claimed that the money was not his.
It is learned that this leader called for auction of seized stones of Lova river in Kanaighat on July 21 for Tk 13 crore. He kept Tk 67 lakh in Pubali Bank as cash security. Then he came to the discussion in the minds of the people of Sylhet. This has caused a commotion. It can be seen that this Nizam, blessed by some leaders of Sylhet district-metropolitan area, is working as their agenda. A syndicate is using him as a tool to hide the mountain of black money. There is no trace of the source of this huge wealth beyond the known income. However, he has divided the posts in his upazila by lobbying some dishonest leaders. He is currently the Agriculture Secretary of Gowainghat Upazila Awami League.
Meanwhile, a source said that an influential group was digging stones from the Lova river in Kanaighat day and night by making big holes by planting environmentally destructive bomb machines. Later, with the intervention of Sylhet district administration, their misdeeds were stopped. Huge amount of stones were seized. Mysterious but true is that the influential people have been humiliating and pressuring the environment department administration in various ways to get rid of this stone. At one stage the matter was taken to the court. This is how their daily activities are going on.
Even after so many things, their running is not stopping. Besides, they used tactics to make themselves known in the name of movement in Kanaighat upazila. They could not do any work. Eventually they came to Qatar to join the auction in the administration of the Department of Environment. I also took another 13 crore rupees. But the parents of that money cannot be found now. Nizam Uddin refused to take the responsibility of that money. As a result, speculations are going on in the conscious community. Many people are wondering who is the godfather of that money?
Talking to Nizam Uddin on his mobile phone to know about this, he said that a leader of the district Awami League named Palash and a former leaseholder had invested the money. At the same time, he said, some more members of Lobachhara Stone Traders Cooperative Society Ltd. North and South are involved. They all gave him this money. In reply to another question, he said that he has about 70 thousand rupees in his personal account. Regrettably, the stone is lifted and stocked in the dry season. Later they are sold during the rainy season. He also said that he has participated in the auction three times. When he called A’League leader Palash on his mobile phone, his mobile phone was not received.
